Message from Mr. Avdek November 13, 2023
Dear Evans Park Elementary School community,
I am honored to introduce myself as the new Principal of Evans Park Elementary School. I wish to share my excitement to work with our amazing students, staff, and families in support of Pearl River School District’s mission that all students can and will learn.
While a passionate educator and advocate for students and families for over 12 years, I am foremost a father and husband. I have two beautiful 3 year old twin daughters, Jane and Adina, and am celebrating over 14 years together with my wife, Alexis. I truly cherish our time as a family together cooking, hiking, gardening, and exploring our local community.
My teaching career began as a Special Education teacher, ELA department coach, and IEP coordinator in Queens, New York. Prior to joining the Pearl River School District, I served as the Assistant Principal since 2017 at Crompond Elementary in Yorktown. These experiences strengthened the belief that education has the unique power to create deeper connections within ourselves, to our community, and to the world. I know these values are shared by Evans Park Elementary’s community and I am excited to begin our educational journey together.
Most importantly, I understand that Evans Park Elementary and the Pearl River SD’s success is the product of the strong partnerships and relationships between our students, staff members, families, and the greater community. My first goal is to listen to the traditions, practices, stories, needs, and hopes of the community so that I could support the continued success of our students. My door and ears are always open to welcome the insight and expertise of our students, staff, parents, and community members.
Through our collaboration, we will continue to work for our children to achieve higher levels of success, feel a deep sense of connectedness to our school, and meet the demands of an ever-changing world with empathy and innovation. I am proud to be the new Principal of Evans Park Elementary School and am looking forward to an exciting school year together!
Sincerely,
Joseph Avdek
